Volunteering and community

Alcoa is proud to invest in the communities where it operates. We do so (in part) through location donations or grants and projects supported by the Alcoa Foundation. In addition, our Alcoans often give back to the places we call home and we take great pride in how our care for people value comes to life through volunteerism.

From reading programs to habitat rehabilitation, our employees have the full support of Alcoa while they give back to their community. Not only does the community benefit from the help, but our employees also share the experiences are rewarding as they are able to connect with new people, learn new skills, and discover new perspectives.

Anthony

As a dedicated Dwellingup Fire Brigade volunteer, giving back to the community is in Anthony’s blood. Each year, our dedicated Alcoa Volunteers and ACTION programs inject thousands of hours of volunteer labor and vital funds into local communities. Anthony, a Mobile Maintenance Coordinator, always raises his hand for any these volunteer opportunities. “I’m proud to work for a company that encourages employees to support their local communities.”

Hillary

Leading work across the company’s digital platforms, Hillary knows the importance of solid systems, sound project management and transparent workflows. As a senior web developer, she’s quick to map a design that enables successful projects to move through Alcoa’s corporate structure. But Hillary knows that at the heart of any project you’ll find committed and passionate team members.

“Alcoa truly values people on a personal level, which can make hard days a bit easier. Throughout my career, I've worked with amazing, talented individuals that were not only excellent mentors, leaders, and professionals, but more importantly, great people. I've always felt that Alcoa appreciates me as person and not just an employee,” she explained. “Our culture enables an environment where people are always willing to jump in and help their fellow employees. When you raise your hand, your questions are answered. You can lean on others for expertise and support is provided when needed.”

Bluey

For four decades, Bluey, a Pinjarra Alumina Refinery crane driver, has been an essential volunteer with Alcoa's vital bush fire services. “I believe volunteers are the backbone of our community,” Bluey explained. "I'm proud to work for a company that lends its support." In 2020, the Alcoa Volunteers program provided nearly 1,700 hours of help to more than 40 community groups in the Pinjarra-Mandurah area.

Tamiris

As a manager within Alcoa’s Environment, Health & Safety team, Tamiris leads a team of 12 Alcoans who are responsible for implementing health, safety and environmental campaigns. In her role, she’s always thinking about creating a safer environment for her team while contributing towards the company’s ambitious sustainability goals. “I’m a proud Alcoan because it’s a company that treats safety, health and the environment as a non-negotiable value. As I expect the birth of my first child, Joaquim, I am very happy and grateful to work for a company whose value is Caring for People. Having the Alcoa Women’s Network support has been wonderful.”
