Our Areas of Focus

To achieve our mission, Alcoa Foundation funds initiatives focused on three priority areas:

  • Community Resilience: such as access to education, health, and clean water, STEM-related school programs and student mentorship, and food security.
  • Economic Resilience: such as skills development, economic diversification, entrepreneur development, and STEM-related regional workforce development.
  • Landscape Resilience: such as climate adaptation, habitat restoration, and greenspace and waterways stewardship.

How We Select Grantees

Alcoa Foundation selects charitable organizations as grantees based on alignment with our funding priorities and sustainable outcomes from our community investments. Grant applications are by invitation only. We are not accepting unsolicited grant requests at this time.

When considering where to invest, Alcoa Foundation seeks grant projects that:

  • align with our priority focus areas;
  • are based in regions where Alcoa operates (Alcoa locations);
  • are outcome-focused and deliver measurable result that can be tracked and communicated;
  • can be sustained over time without ongoing Alcoa Foundation funding;
  • have the capacity to meet the terms of Alcoa Foundation granting agreements and reporting requirements;
  • demonstrate commitment to the inclusion of diverse and underserved populations; and,
  • provide volunteering opportunities (when appropriate and feasible) whereby our collective impacts can be amplified and communicated.
