Alcoa apprenticeships up for grabs
Alcoa has a proud history of training generations of skilled tradespeople and in a continuation of the tradition has launched its 2020 apprenticeship recruitment campaign, which runs until July 15.
The global industry leader in bauxite, alumina and aluminium products says apprentices play an important role in the company’s future and they are looking to recruit more than 20 apprentices to commence in January 2020.
Four-year apprenticeships in the following trade categories are on offer: mechanical fitters, fabricators / welders, heavy duty plant mechanics and industrial electrical instrumentation technicians.
Alcoa’s ongoing commitment to first-class training and providing different job opportunities during an employee’s career add to the value apprentices place on the program.
Secret Harbour resident Paige Calvert is a first-year electrical instrumentation apprentice at Alcoa’s Kwinana Alumina Refinery and knows she has been given an invaluable opportunity.
“This apprenticeship has set me on a clear career path which I did not imagine possible before starting at Alcoa,” Ms Calvert said.
“I work for a renowned global company which cares about its people and the environment and I’m learning a trade I’m passionate about; I just feel so lucky.”
According to Alcoa Human Resources Director Kath Soumanis the company is seeking people who are motivated, positive and committed to learning.
“We look for people with demonstrated problem solving and communication skills and who like to broaden their horizons by being involved in their communities and other activities," Ms Soumanis said.
Ms Soumanis said Alcoa offers a diverse and inclusive workplace which supports women, people of different backgrounds and those with a variety of skills and life experiences.
“We are committed to attracting and retaining a diverse range of top talent so our success continues for generations to come,” she said.
“And we know we’re achieving great things as Alcoa has been named an Employer of Choice for Gender Equality for nearly two decades and Pride in Diversity recognise us as a Silver Employer in the Australian Workplace Equality Index for LGBTI inclusion.”
Alcoa has a proud history in Western Australia and the Peel/South West regions, employing more than 3750 people and contributing hundreds of millions of dollars each year to the WA economy.
