In Australia, our long-standing commitment to sustainability was established by our first employees when they built our company foundations in the 1960s. These committed individuals engrained sustainability into our DNA and it remains a strategic priority.

We constantly strive to meet and exceed corporate and community expectations and do so by taking action in the areas of environmental management, community involvement, health, safety and wellbeing, and corporate citizenship.

As a major producer of bauxite, alumina and aluminium, we focus heavily on minimising the impacts from our operations. Among our key environmental priorities is to focus on mining rehabilitation and bauxite residue management.

We are active community members and believe we have a responsibility to add value to the places where we operate.

We want the communities in which our employees work and live to thrive. As such, we have a deep commitment to engaging the community in our decisions, investing in social initiatives, offering tours to school students and facilitating employee giving and volunteering programs.

Wherever we operate in Australia, we acknowledge the Traditional Owners of the lands and pay respects to their elders past, present and emerging.

Alcoa has worked collaboratively alongside Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people for more than half a century. In 2022, we launched our second Reconciliation Action Plan to guide our efforts to build meaningful outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.

Modern Slavery Statement

As part of our commitment to upholding human rights, we release an annual Modern Slavery Statement. The statement is issued in accordance with the Australian Modern Slavery Act 2018 (Cth).

We put significant effort into ensuring the safety of our employees, suppliers, contractors, visitors, neighbours and nearby communities. We never compromise our health, safety and environment values for profit or production.

One of our core Values is Care for People. Globally, Alcoa is focused on ensuring there are zero fatalities and serious injuries (life-threatening or life-altering injuries and illnesses) at our locations. This is something that also guides the way we operate our locations in Australia.
