Apprentices urged to follow their dreams
Apprentices from across Alcoa’s Western Australian operations celebrated the culmination of four years of training and hard work at the 2023 graduation ceremony. Alcoa traineeships ‘like winning the lotto’
Applications are now open for 12-month Traineeships in Surface Extraction at Alcoa’s Huntly and Willowdale bauxite mines in the Peel and South West regions of Western Australia. Commencing February 2024, the highly sought-after traineeships are nationally accredited and include TAFE studies and practical assessments to widen participants’ career prospects. Successful applicants will finish with a Certificate II in Surface Extraction.

To celebrate International Women in Engineering Day on 23 June 2023, Alcoa has announced the recipients of its 2023 Alcoa Bev Corless Women in Engineering Scholarships. Shannon Henderson and Carynne Koh will each receive a total of $20,000 over two years to help with their engineering studies at WA’s Curtin University, as well as having the opportunity to undertake work experience at Alcoa’s bauxite mines and alumina refineries in the south west of the State.

The Foodbank Peel branch is on track to provide about 661,500 meals this year to vulnerable individuals, families and students within the region through 80 charity agencies and 55 schools. Gas shortage prompts production cut at Alcoa’s Kwinana Alumina Refinery
In light of ongoing gas supply challenges in Western Australia, a production unit has been taken offline at Alcoa’s Kwinana Alumina Refinery. In addition, process flows at the refinery have been reduced. These actions represent an approximate 30 percent reduction in production at the refinery.
