Alcoa marks International Volunteer Day
Demonstrating the true spirit of International Volunteer Day on 5 December, employees from Alcoa’s Western Australian Operations have provided more than 4000 volunteering hours this year to help more than 100 community groups and charities.
While the COVID pandemic is limiting volunteering in different parts of the world, about 1000 of Alcoa’s Western Australian employees have been able to roll up their sleeves to provide support across the Perth, Kwinana, Peel and Upper South West regions.
Volunteering efforts ranged from pitching in at sporting and community group busy bees, to mentoring students, planting trees and clearing litter from public areas.
Corporate Affairs Manager Suellen Jerrard said volunteering was part of the proud culture at Alcoa.
“Alcoa is proud to be an engaged and supportive partner in our neighbouring communities and we encourage and support our employees to also be active community members,” Mrs Jerrard said.
The theme for International Volunteer Day 2021 was Volunteer now for our common future - inspiring people, whether they are decision makers or citizens, to take action now for a better future for people and the planet.
Mrs Jerrard said helping to build a sustainable future for local community groups and the environment was just one way Alcoa was taking action for a better future.
