Alcoa continues to work with the principal contractor to assess the Anglesea site and plan for the remainder of the powerhouse structure to be demolished.

Alcoa of Australia’s Anglesea power station was partially demolished using controlled explosives at approximately 12.35pm today.
Alcoa Site Asset Manager Warren Sharp said the demolition activity, which was safely executed, did not result in the complete collapse of the former power station structure.
“The safety of all site personnel and the community is Alcoa’s priority,” Mr Sharp said.
“We are currently working with the principal contractor to assess the site and plan for the remainder of the structure to be demolished.”
Victoria EPA and Worksafe were onsite during the demolition activity.
The power station is situated on private property and is not accessible to the public.
A 110-metre exclusion zone is in place around the power station and security officers are controlling the perimeter of the exclusion zone.
Preparations for the demolition have been underway for some time and have included a comprehensive twelve-month asbestos removal program. The structure is predominantly steel which will be recycled.
